Tournaments are needed for teams primarily so that players can improve their skills, think over new strategies and study the weaknesses of their opponents, as well as simply win some prize pool. If we are not talking about esportsmen, but about people who follow esports, then you should know that there is a schedule of tournaments for the year. Each of them happens at a certain time (for example, several days or weeks) in a certain place, where all participating teams gather (if the competition is like "Tier 1" or "Tier 2", then sitting at home in your favorite chair and playing will not work).

The situation is most interesting with annual events awaited by players and teams worldwide:

These tournaments are held every year and are considered "top tier". Every team dreams of participating in them, regardless of the level of professionalism and experience in Dota 2.

The International is the most important event in the Dota 2 game. The best teams of the world level (from six regions) will demonstrate their skills in battle against each other. As of 2022, the number of participating teams should be 30. The tournament is organized by the developers of the game Dota - Valve company. The tournament can be compared in significance in esports, for example, with the holding of the World Cup in football. In addition to the prize pool, the Aegis of Champions is also awarded - the tournament award. It is a shield made of silver and bronze, on which all the names of the winning team are engraved, starting from the very first tournament.

Major - a series of tournaments that take place in LAN format. For a competition to receive the "Major" status, there are a set of rules controlled by Valve themselves. Eighteen teams from all over the world participate in the competition, a round-robin system of the group stage and playoff grid are used. The prize fund amounts to a minimum of 500,000 dollars and 3,500 DPC points.

There are also sponsored tournaments, like DreamLeague. This particular tournament often takes place online and is not included in the DPC ratings. Sixteen teams participate in the tournament, which receive invitations to participate in advance. The prize pool is substantial - 1,000,000 dollars, and they are divided among all teams, depending on the results.
